Inside the UK's largest exhibition of Christian Dior's influential fashion pieces at the V&A

Updated: Dec 9, 2019

Following the success of the Victoria and Albert Museum's last fashion exhibition for Alexander McQueen in London, the gallery has opened the largest showcase of Christian Dior's most iconic pieces.

The exhibition features a large, established collection of unique and iconic fashion pieces, such as Princess Margaret’s 21st birthday dress, which have been loaned to the V&A from the Museum of London.

The biggest Dior exhibition in the UK will also be showcasing a number of modern-day gowns, accessories and perfumes worn by the likes of Jennifer Lawrence and Margot Fonteyn, original sketches from the iconic brands history and photographs taken throughout the fashion line's life.

Throughout the exhibition were connotations of Dior's admiration for the aesthetic of British royalty and aristocrat culture. The fashion line’s creator claimed: “I love English traditions. English politeness and English architecture. I even love English cooking”.

The House of Dior, founded in 1946, is now one of the most influential and high-functioning brands in the industry. Christian Dior's key eye for the silhouette and shape of a women’s body, with detail on dream-like, flowery designs, and it’s influence on fashion today can be seen throughout the exhibition.

The gallery looks into the history of the designer and the monumental influence that Dior has had on the industry itself, shown in the snippets of famous collaborations with the brand around the showroom, such as Lyle & Scott and jewellery designer, Mitchell Maer.

Christian Dior: Designer of Dreams” exhibition is open to the public from February 2nd until July 14th at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.
